Young volunteers are recruited on short-term work placements through local
secondary schools and colleges. Longer-term volunteers are
recruited through Haringey Youth Service and Haringey Adult Learning Services.
Young people
are also referred to Exposure through the Youth Offending Service,
the Harington Scheme, North London Connexions, Millennium Volunteers, Entry
2 Employment and school exclusion agencies such the Pupil Referral
Unit.
Over the last year Exposure was in contact with 357 young people
of whom 212 participated in Exposure activities. Of these, 203 made a tangible
contribution to Exposure’s work with 76 gaining a formal accreditation.
Exposure worked with 47 young people defined as NEET (Not in
Education, Employment or Training) or at serious risk of becoming NEET.
Most of Exposure’s
young volunteers came from Haringey and of these some 46% are
from Tottenham, 22% from Wood Green, 19% from Highgate or Muswell Hill,
and 13% from Crouch
End or Hornsey.
In addition, 20% of Exposure’s young volunteers came from Enfield,
10% from Islington, 9% from Barnet and 6% from Hackney. Most of Exposure’s
young volunteers go on to access a range of employment, education and training
opportunities. Exposure is regularly asked to provide references for former
volunteers by educational establishments and employers.
Exposure’s volunteer recruitment activities have been funded by a Haringey
Local Area Agreement. It is hoped that further such funding will be secured
to continue the work in the future.

My work experience at Exposure has taught me many things to do with graphic design. When I first came I didn't know anything. I started training with Luke who taught me how to create and edit images using Photoshop and Illustrator.
Exposure is an equal opportunity organisation. They don't discriminate against gender and ethnic groups. Everyone is welcome. You can get involved in any of the activities. Overall I have really enjoyed my work experience and this was thanks to all the staff. I have had fun and it has been a pleasure to work with them.
